Formal recreational and cultural programs are offered through the Greenville Area Recreational Center, including swimming, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, crafts, amphitheater performances, art classes, nature center, nature/fitness trails and much more. A new recreational sports complex has also dramatically expanded the availability of recreational facilities in the area. Golf Digest recognized Mercer County as one of the country’s top golf destinations due to the quality, variety and affordability of golfing here. Two newly renovated courses “ The Greens of Greenville” and nearby “ Avalon Golf & Country Club at Buhl” are prime examples of great golfing and dining.
Furthermore, Thiel College is the center of the Greenville community’s cultural offerings. You can enjoy the community theater, a symphony orchestra, and a variety of courses for non-traditional students. Greenville has a public library, since 1921, with an active literacy council. A variety of unique facilities, including railroad and canal boat museums, a historical society museum and a Great Blue Heron bird sanctuary, also contribute to the community’s cultural character. Every year on the first Saturday in July, a "Heritage Day" celebration is held.
